Student Comments from Course Evaluations
Supporting an inclusive classroom environment
"She was so accessible for asking questions and made everyone feel so comfortable. I really appreciated her and her commitment to creating an inclusive atmosphere. Her feedback and help on my policy brief helped me to make a good grade on a difficult assignment." [Applied Human Development, Fall 2024]
"Megan was exceptional in creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment. I felt comfortable participating in in–class activities and knew I could reach out if I had any concerns. Her attentiveness, energy, understanding, and engaging presence during our discussion meetings truly made a positive impact. She fostered an atmosphere where everyone felt valued and encouraged to contribute." [Applied Human Development, Fall 2024]
"Megan used inclusive and respectful language more intentionally than I have ever seen someone do. She made she that everyone felt valued and made sure to fight against the culture of shame in terms of not being able to get to readings etc. She was understanding and set realistic expectations that people met because of how she taught. She encouraged collaboration, down to even having the class make a group study guide, in a way that helped all of us." [Applied Human Development, Fall 2022]
Fostering participation
"She was very encouraging in getting us to share and answer questions. She did not force participation, but instead made me want to participate with her clear/concise questions." [Applied Human Development, Spring 2024]
"Megan's positive spirit and teaching habits are really effective for the purpose this class serves. She has an inviting aura that incentivizes people to participate and engage with each other. I think that if I were to take this course with any other teacher, it would have been a completely different experience. Megan's class is unique and has been one of my favorite classes to attend this semester." [Applied Human Development, Spring 2025]
"She is not only invested, caring, and sweet, but also super knowledgeable about this topic. I absolutely loved the way that she led class discussions. She was always open to new ideas and always made me feel valued when I contributed. This class is one where I contributed more than I normally do, not because I liked the content whatsoever but more just because she made me feel as though my contributions were meaningful. Her paper revisions were also super helpful to my understanding of academic writing. Additionally, the way she was open to teaching us the entirety of APA says a lot about how committed she was to our learning." [Applied Human Development, Spring 2023]
Showing a commitment to student learning and growth
"I think that Megan was amazing. Not only was she very enthusiastic and happy to be teaching us, which also made us excited to learn, but she also made the class interactive through various activities, made it fun through different incentives like bringing in snacks and donuts, and was exceptionally responsive whenever another student or I had a question about the course material or a concept. Whenever she would give feedback on my writing, it was also constructive and made me a better writer. Overall, I can't image a better person to teach this course." [Applied Human Development, Spring 2025]
"I am a senior this semester and soon to graduate next spring in May, and I can wholeheartedly say with absolute confidence that Megan has been the best Peabody TA I have had across the past 3 years I have been a student at Vanderbilt. She is truly a kind and caring person first off, who has a passion for not only getting to know her students but sharing her knowledge in a digestible and relatable manner to them as well. From the games we played to the theories we dived into more, Megan articulated the main ideas of the class well in both practical and conceptual ways. I think her reachability throughout the semester was also a great area of support I received from this semester, where I was able to ask questions related to lab sessions or course content in a comfortable environment that Megan has produced this semester. Her thoughtfulness and willingness to go above and beyond for her students in each lab session truly made this semester a memorable one for me." [CLASS, YEAR]
